Water Witches

These costumes emerged from a conversation I had with a friend when Brett Stanley indicated he’d be coming through our city.  I was all “My hair isn’t long enough for underwater shots to look any good” and my friend said “What about that stuff you put in your hair at festivals?” and then a vision was born, I booked in, and the Water Witches came into existence.

To make these I had to learn the basics of wig making.  There are actually three costumes (I made a black one first for practice), and they each involve approximately 150m of tubular crin in various diameters and types, sewn by hand onto tough wig caps.  The skirts are double layered full circle chiffon skirts, and the tops are pole dance crop tops (I bought these).

I told the makup artist we wanted to look otherworldly and vaguely threatening.  I think it worked!  I’m looking forward to doing some more shoots with these costumes, although you won’t catch me going in the sea in them because they are really hard to swim in!
